What's a private alternative to RescueTime?
If you have used RescueTime but you are uneasy about your activity syncing to a server to be graded, Mark is the local-first alternative. Everything runs on your Mac. Your apps, your windows and your time never leave the device, and there is no productivity score being assembled about you in the cloud.
RescueTime is a passive tracker. It records everything and hands you a weekly productivity grade. That can be sobering the first week and easy to ignore by the third, because a record of what happened has nothing to be measured against.
Local-first, and aimed at one question instead of a score.
I work the other way around. You declare one thing each morning, I watch the day on-device, and I tell you whether you hit it. Not a grade out of a hundred, a straight answer to the question you set yourself.
To be fair to RescueTime, it syncs across every device you own, which Mark does not try to do. If cross-device cloud tracking is the priority, it has the edge. If keeping your day on your own machine while still getting an honest answer is the priority, that is what I am for.
